ABOUT
Ute Müller studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the Royal College of Art in London. While rooted in painting, her practice has expanded to encompass sculpture, installation, and spatial interventions. Through her work in collectives, she has extended her painting-oriented approach into a broader dialogue with social structures.
Solo exhibitions of her work have taken place at art spaces and institutions such as la Salle de Bains in Lyon, Beige Brussels, mumok Vienna, Fondazione Brodbeck in Catania, Künstlerhaus Graz, Galleria Collicaligreggi in Catania, Strabag Artforum Vienna, Kunstverein Ve.Sch in Vienna, Galerie Dana Charkasi in Vienna and Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions at venues including the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna, Nosbaum Reding Brussels, the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in Vilnius, Komagome SOKO in Tokyo, Neue Galerie Graz, Galerie Greta Meert in Brussels, Taxispalais in Innsbruck, Kunsthalle Vienna, Galerie Max Hetzler in Berlin, Nomas Foundation Rome, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Künstlerhaus Wien and the Nam June Paik Art Center in Seoul.
Together with Christoph Meier and Nick Oberthaler she co founded the artist zine Black Pages, a long term publication project that serves as an experimental platform for artistic exchange. It has been presented in installations at Franz Josefs Kai 3 in Vienna as well as in projects at Kunstverein Salzburg and Kunstverein Hamburg. She has also worked as a collective with Christoph Meier, Robert Schwarz and Lukas Stopczynski on an extended project exploring site specific reinterpretations of the Loos Bar, realised in iterations for Wiener Festwochen, the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and Établissement d’en face in Brussels.
Her works have been awarded the Kapsch Contemporary Art Prize, the Klocker Foundation Advancement Prize, and the Viktor Fogarassy Prize. Recently she completed a residency at WIELS, Center for Contemporary Art in Brussels. Ute Müller lives and works in Vienna.
